Restoring Knee Function: A Comprehensive Approach to Lasting Relief

Knee pain is rarely an isolated issue. Because the knee is a hinge joint positioned between the hip and the foot, its health depends entirely on the mechanics of the entire leg. When one part of this system is out of alignment or under excessive tension, the knee often becomes the site of compensation and pain.

At our office, we take a different path. We look at the knee as part of a larger mechanical system. Because the knee sits between the hip and the foot, its health depends on how the rest of the leg moves. Our goal is to address the joint, the surrounding muscles, and the underlying inflammation all at once.

The Role of Alignment in Knee Health

A knee that is not tracking properly will experience uneven wear and tear on the cartilage and stress ligaments. This often happens because of a restricted ankle or an imbalanced pelvis. If the foundation is off, the knee cannot move as it was designed to.

Through specific chiropractic adjustments, we restore proper motion to the joints of the lower extremity. By ensuring the hip, knee, and ankle are all working in harmony, we take the mechanical stress off the joint and allow for a more natural, pain-free range of motion.

Addressing Inflammation with Class IV Laser Therapy

Persistent knee pain is frequently driven by inflammation deep within the joint capsule or surrounding tendons. While rest and ice provide some relief, they often fail to reach the source of the problem.

We use Class IV Laser Therapy to provide a non-invasive solution for this inflammation. The laser delivers light energy into the damaged tissues to support cellular repair and improve local circulation. This process helps to reduce inflammation, pain, swelling and significantly shorten the time it takes for a joint to recover from an injury.

Remodeling and Realigning Tissue with Shockwave

For many patients, knee pain is a recurring issue caused by old injuries that never fully healed. Over time, the body can develop dense scar tissue or adhesions that limit flexibility and cause sharp pain during activity.

Shockwave Therapy is an effective tool for these chronic conditions. By sending acoustic pressure waves into the affected area, we can help remodel and realign the scar tissue and adhesions that restrict movement. This treatment also promotes the growth of new blood vessels in the area. This is essential for repairing tendons that have been painful for years, such as in jumper’s knee or chronic patellar tendonitis.

Balancing the Muscles: ART and Myofascial Release

The muscles surrounding the knee, including the quadriceps and hamstrings, act as the joint's primary stabilizers. When these muscles become tight or develop trigger points, they pull on the knee and create unnecessary friction.

We utilize Active Release Technique (ART) and Myofascial Release to manually address these soft tissue restrictions. By releasing the tension in the muscles and the fascia that surrounds them, we allow the knee to move freely. This not only reduces current pain but also helps prevent future injuries by ensuring the joint is properly supported.

A Path to Avoiding Surgical Intervention

One of the most common questions we receive is whether chiropractic care can help a patient avoid knee surgery. While surgery is sometimes necessary in severe cases, many patients find that a conservative, integrated approach can delay or even eliminate the need for invasive procedures.

Surgery often focuses on repairing a specific piece of anatomy, like a torn meniscus or a ligament. However, if the underlying mechanical issues that caused the injury are not addressed, the stress on the knee will continue even after the operation. Our goal is to improve the internal environment of the joint. By reducing inflammation with the laser, restoring alignment with adjustments, and improving muscle function through myofascial release, we often see patients regain their mobility and return to their favorite activities without having to go under the knife.

A Tailored Path to Recovery

Every patient experiences knee pain differently. By utilizing these four distinct modalities, we are able to create a recovery plan that covers every aspect of joint health: the bone, the muscle, and the cellular environment. Our goal is to help you return to your daily activities with confidence and movement that is fluid and pain-free.
